But what about the traffic?

Published Date: August 22, 2025

Recently, I published an articlce about my current thoughts around simpler marketing and what that might look like. I sent that article to a friend in media buying who's also been feeling a bit burnt-out by today's always-on marketing, and he asked the expected question:

"But how will you get discovered and grow your business?"

This is a great question, because held within it lies the misconception that we cannot do marketing without relying on the algorithm-based discovery feeds. That unless we are on algorithm-based social media by posting organically in ways the algorithm "likes," and pushing ads on that feed, then we can't possibly grow our business.

I have so many thoughts on this topic of growth and discoverability, but I'll condense them into several categories:

1. Overestimating Marketing's Importance in the RevOps Cycle

30 M orgs without marketing

2. Overestimating the Algorithm's Importance

We used to market before the algorithm

3. Overestimating the Necessity of Virality for Business Growth
