Think about your industy for a moment. You know, the big names:
- So and so with that webinar
- So and so who literally “wrote the book” on that concept
- So and so whose membership you’re a part of, TedTalk you’ve listened to, etc.
Got the list?
Okay, now think about these Experts versus others in your field struggling to be seen and ask yourself, “What’s the difference between these two groups of people?”
If you’re savvy, you might say things like:
“The first group has a book/podcast/show. The others don’t.”
“The first group has named offers — a course, a named consultation call, a membership.”
“The first group has been interviewed by a lot of people.”
“The first group charges a lot more money than the second.”
“The first group has been around for longer.”
“The first group has more proof.”
“The first group has a larger audience.”
All valid answers, thank you.
But the one piece I want you to notice today is this:
The most important people in your space have “flag in the ground” principles that they won’t violate for anything.
My friend Nick Richtsmeier calls this having a “Point of View”, and it’s essential if you want to stand out, attract great clients, and actually love the busienss you’re in.
Because just like in dating, if you have to pretend to be someone you’re not, you’re going to a) hate your life, and b) probably mess it up and slip at some point.
So don’t do that. Make it easy and resistance-free by declaring your own “flag in the ground” concepts, principles, and beliefs up front and often.
Try it and let me know how it goes.
